Our Legacy Since 2022

African Spinal Injuries Association is a non-profit, charitable organisation established in June 2022 by Abdirisak Abdilahi Ali. Once one of the best-known football players in Hargeisa, Abdirisak sustained a severe spinal cord injury in 2019 while playing in a tournament. Because the injury could not be treated in Somaliland or the wider region, he was first treated in India and later transferred to Canada for further care. Through this painful yet hopeful journey, Abdirisak realised the enormous need for specialised spinal injury support across the entire region, which led to the creation of this organisation.

The organisation is working to establish a fully equipped Medical and Rehabilitation Centre in Somaliland. This centre may be the first of its kind in Somaliland, and possibly in East Africa, dedicated to treating and supporting people living with Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI).
